Approximately 10 tons of ice was turned in snow and shot into the polar bear exhibit to celebrate the first day of winter and to create a fun playground for two of the Zoo’s polar bears.

According to statistics, Australia is ninth in the world with the amount of greenhouse gas emissions they put into the air. In the year 2000, it was estimated that Australia was responsible for putting as much as 25.9 tons of carbon emissions into the air. The fact that Australia was ranked as ninth in the list of who produces the most emissions that are put into the air per year is not very good. This is a fairly clear indication that something must be done about the emissions being put into the air by Australia and this needs to be done now.

What can Australia do to reduce their emissions? There is plenty that an individual can do. An individual can do some simple things around their home that could help in saving electricity and the bonus with doing this is that it can save the individual money as well. Keeping the home maintained, purchasing highly efficient electronics, turning things off when they are not in use and using alternative transportation are all simple ways that an individual can help reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses they normally contribute to the atmosphere. Businesses can also do a lot by encouraging alternative transportation and car pooling, as well as keeping the building well maintained and having machinery turned off when not in use are all things that can greatly help in reducing greenhouse emissions; however, getting the government to give incentives for becoming more green and enforcing it can go even farther. By writing to the government, voting on parties that are in favor of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, getting thousands to sign petitions to show support for the reduction of emissions as well as educating others about the need for the reduction of these emissions can all go a long way in bringing the change that is necessary.

Especially with government support, incentives and enforcement can push the country to start becoming more progressive and change to using renewable forms of energy that will aid in stopping the emissions from being put into the air.

Another effective strategy to reduce carbon emissions is to purchase carbon offsets. Carbon Offsetting is an efficient and easy way to reduce your carbon footprint.

There is much that can be done if just one person puts their mind to it, but it is amazing what many people can do if they work together. If enough emphasis is put onto the problem with emissions and the government is pressured enough to realize that this is an important concern for their people, changes can be made.

In a world that is starting to focus more on how to reduce the effects of global warming, individuals and businesses alike are looking for new ways to offset the greenhouse gasses they produce and reduce their carbon footprint. While there are many who have been successful in reducing their greenhouse gas production to a minimal level, they are unable to put out zero greenhouse gasses. It is at this point that many will look at the option of purchasing carbon offsets in order to offset the greenhouse gasses they are still producing.

When looking for a company to purchase carbon offsets from, one has to do their research. It is unfortunate, but the world is not as honest as one would like to think it is. There has been the occasion where companies were purchasing carbon offsets from a company to find that the money was not being put toward what it should be. When looking for a carbon offset company, one has to look into the companies they find and do a little research. They should answer some questions before paying the company, such as where does the money go? Does the money go into research or a program? What kind of research or program does the money go into? How does carbon offsetting work? It is important to get to know the company you are dealing with to make sure that you are putting money into a company that is legitimate in its efforts to turn the world more green.

The idea of purchasing carbon offsets is fairly new and searching for the right carbon offset company to deal with might take some time, but it is best to ensure that you are dealing with the right company that shares the same goals and values that you do. To ensure this, there are three things to take into account when looking for the right carbon offset company for you. One is to find out exactly what the money you are paying them is going into and whether or not you support it. Some companies will put their money into research, while others will put their money into different programs. Another is to make sure that the company you are about to deal with is legitimate. As mentioned before, there are, unfortunately, scams going on where the carbon offset money is not put to use where it is supposed to be, eliminating the whole purpose of purchasing carbon offsets. The last thing to think about before going with the company is to find out how much of what you are pay them actually makes it to the program or research they say the money is going into. If only a small percentage makes it, then it might be a good idea to find a better carbon offset company to deal with where most, if not all, of the money makes it.

There is a lot of debate going on regarding whether Global Warming is actually here or not. Many of the world’s leading scientists are saying that Global Warming has already arrived, so there is very little anyone can do to stop it; however, there are steps that people can take in order to reduce the effect of Global Warming. At this point, doing as much as one can do reduce the effects is essential, which means making some sacrifices and making some big changes in how one lives their life. Whether Global Warming is already here or has not quite arrived yet, it is best to start making the healthy changes now; healthy changes that will not only help them, but will also greatly help the natural environment.

How much does one have to change their life? Really, it all depends on how the person lives their life now. If a person already lives a very green life, then they will not have to change a lot; however, a person who is used to living in a way that takes a large toll on the environment will have to make some big changes. First, a person should live in a smaller home. Larger homes are only a drain on the resources and are one of the largest greenhouse grass producers, after vehicles, businesses and factories. Getting rid of the old car and purchasing a hybrid, riding a bicycle or just walking are other things a person needs to do to reduce the effects of Global Warming. Becoming more environmental in general, by planting trees, purchasing local foods, re-using more, recycling more, avoiding plastic and paper when possible and doing what they can to their house to reduce energy consumption are all ways that can reduce the effects of global warming.

All it takes is one person to become greener in how they live. It only takes one person changing how they live to a better way of life to bring out the same kind of change in others. That one person who shares their ideas will influence others who will think the changes are a good idea and start to make the same changes in their own lives. Those people will then influence others in the same way. People will often forget the power that one person has in influencing change; one person has the power to make all the difference in the world when they put their energy into it.

Around the world, there are many climate change events that take place in order to bring awareness to the fact that our world needs us to change. There are many ways that people can change in order to have a positive impact on our planet. The many events that are held around the world each deal with a different way that people can change in order to bring about a more environmentally friendly attitude. Below are five examples of some events that are geared toward living in a greener way.

Earth hour is an international event that is held once a year in order to raise awareness about the need to change our habits regarding energy consumption. This is done on the last Saturday of March where everyone is asked to turn everything off for one hour in the evening.

Earth Day is an event that is celebrated once a year. The date of when it is held will vary in different places around the world, but the purpose is the same. This is a day that is meant to celebrate our Earth and show our appreciation for our planet. It is also a day when people are encouraged to reflect on what they can do in order to be kinder to our special planet.

Trash to Treasure Day is celebrated once a year in many places where people will put items out on their front lawns for one day. People going by who see something they like are free to take it if they feel they have use for it. This day works on the idea that one person’s junk is another’s treasure. This way, items that would have normally been tossed in the trash are being reused.

World Environment Day, which was created by the United Nations, is a week long event that is hosted by a different city every year and is meant to raise awareness about the state of the environment. Though the main focus remains on the environment, there will be a different environmental theme each year.

B.C. River Day is an event that is held in British Columbia once a year in the Fall and is an event that may very well be celebrated in other places around the world; the event just might be under another name. This particular event is meant to raise awareness about the state of our rivers, lakes and oceans and to encourage change that will help to improve the health of our waterways.

There are many ways that a person can go about reducing the effects of climate change. Many of the world’s leading scientists are saying that global warming is already here, so doing things to reduce it’s effect on climate change is about all that people can do right now. People around the world are becoming more creative with how they do their part to reducing the effects of climate change; things that anyone can do. It is just a matter of doing it. Below is a list of twenty different things a person can do to reduce the effect of climate change:

1. Change all the light bulbs in the house to compact fluorescent light bulbs.

2. Use alternative methods of transportation, such as walking, riding a bike, purchasing a hybrid vehicle or car pooling.

3. Design and build your own solar cooker to cook your own food instead of using that horrible, energy wasting oven and stove.

4. Stop purchasing bottled water. Not only is most of it simply tap water, a lot of energy and water is wasted in bottling water.

5. Eat less meat. Raising livestock uses up a lot of water, and a lot of energy is used in processing the meat.

6. Take the excess concrete off your property and plant trees, shrubs and flower in its place.

7. Move into a smaller, more practical house. A mansion is just a major waste of space and a horrible drain on resources.

8. Wash laundry in cold water and hang it to dry outside.

9. Start a home business; this will take away the need to travel from the home.

10. Pay the bills online. Why use paper when you can view everything online?

11. Make your own, re-usable fabric bags or purchase them and avoid using plastic or paper.

12. Purchase local food.

13. Purchase goods that are not over-packaged.

14. Live a simpler life. Only purchase the things you really need.

15. Be creative with your trash. Decorate soup tins into pen holders, etc.

16. Give green gifts, like growing a flower in a decorated pot and giving it to your mother on Mother’s Day.

17. Use white vinegar for some of the cleaning.

18. Time the showers and avoid baths. If you’re brave enough, you can have a cool shower.

19. Purchase a lawn mower that doesn’t require electricity or gasoline.

20. Get rid of the lawn and replace it with a rock garden.

With the global warming debate in full swing these days, one will often hear the term “carbon footprint”. Just what does carbon footprint mean; what is it? When people talk about the carbon footprint, they are referring to the impact that human activity is having on the environment. As a whole, the entire human race is leaving one, mega-sized carbon footprint on the earth, and this is what is having a devastating effect on the planet in terms of the warming of the globe, the accelerated extinction of many species, the increasing size of deserts and the loss of fresh drinking water. When looking at the carbon footprint at an individual level, each person leaves a different sized carbon footprint. The size of the carbon footprint that a person leaves behind is based on how a person lives their life; how much they contribute to the overall problem of global warming. There are many things that a person can do in order to reduce their carbon footprint; much of it is common sense and easy to do.

The first way that a person can reduce their carbon footprint is to change how they live their everyday life. By taking alternative forms of transportation, such as the bus, car pooling or purchasing a hybrid vehicle, are all ways that a person can reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses they put into the air. The type of food a person eats as well as what they drink should also be taken into consideration when thinking about reducing the carbon footprint. That food and drink came from somewhere, it was processed with something and a lot of energy and water went into production of most of it.

The second way that a person can reduce their carbon footprint is to change how they run their house and business. Changing appliances to updated energy saving appliances, for instance, can greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses being pumped into the air. Changing one’s habits to turn things off when they are not being used, recycling more, reducing the amount of garbage they put out from their household, using less harmful chemicals for cleaning and so on, are all ways that a person can greatly reduce their carbon footprint.

The third way that a person can reduce their carbon footprint is to do more green things for the environment, such as planting trees. Each tree planted will help to remove greenhouse gasses from the air and replace a tree that has been cut down somewhere else.Purchasing carbon offsets will also help to reduce the carbon footprint, as the money is usually put into programs that work to reduce the greenhouse gasses being put into the air.

Have you ever heard of natural cleaning products? Today, words like natural, organic and biochemicals are heard more often than not. The change from chemical to natural is slowly being seen in today’s products.

The use of chemical products can be seen in almost every household today. The use of chemical products from cleaning to deodorizing is common to every household since we use them for day-to-day living, but now, the use of natural products as cleaning agents is gaining grounds. Why the use of natural over chemicals?

Chemical products have some kind of warning label on their packages. These warning labels either requires you to wear a pair of glove to something that requires you to have adequate ventilation since inhalation can cause damage, but chemical products are good in removing stubborn stains than the natural products. Chemical products leave some kind of residue that might still be harmful, while natural based products are safe.

The use of chemical products also means more hard work for the environment to clean it up since it either needs to be broken down or at least neutralized. Consider the fact that almost all households are still using chemical products just to get rid of the stain or any other to clean their house means more work for the environment since not all countries are implementing a waste treatment plant facility, for example, sewage treatment facilities.

Today, caring for our environment has become synonymous with using natural products. The use of chemicals can leave a long term side-effect to the environment since our natural resources are beginning to dwindle and the use of natural products is one way of trying to conserve what’s left of our resources.

Natural products are safe both in the environment and household use. Price factor is also an issue. Natural products are cheaper than chemical products, perhaps, costs nothing at all. Exposure to natural products is less harmful than using a chemical one. The risks and benefits are more favorable to using natural-based products than using chemical-based products.

Natural products like vinegar, lemon and salt are often overlooked as ingredients but they are now being introduced also as cleaning agents as seen on TV or any other type of media. Vinegar for example is being used for removing mineral deposits and as a deodorizer. Vinegar is also used together either with borax or baking soda for removing stains.

Lemon is also used as a deodorizer. The acidity of lemon can also be used to remove some mineral build-up and oil stains. Salt can also be used to remove stains and other deposits. Baking soda, often used in pastries, can also be used as an abrasive cleaner. It also deodorizes, put it in a container inside the refrigerator and it absorbs odor.

Making people educated about substituting chemical products to natural products in order to make a difference in both household and the environment is one way of helping the future generations enjoy a healthy living and protect our resources.

Even cleaning business owners can now use janitorial cleaning products as their cleaning supply. Cleaning business owners can try to check for green cleaning product reviews on how they can use natural cleaning products in their business.
